School and daycare will be canceled for Tuesday, January 7th. Hopefully this will give maintenance crews more time to clear ice from highways and give our maintenance team a chance to make sidewalks safe for everyone. Please stay safe and warm!

School and daycare are officially closed for Monday, January 6th. It looks like Mother Nature decided we needed a good dose of winter to kick off the New Year. Stay warm and stay safe. Ryan Muhlig, Superintendent

Our 8th and 10th grade students were able to participate in several rotations from the Future Maker Labs presenters from WSU Tech today. They got to fly drone simulators, and do VR welding and aerospace painting. The presenters had a lot of good information about opportunities provided by technical colleges and career paths; some programs are as short as 18 weeks, and others last 2 years.

Plans for the Week. We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and a few days off!

We are still in search of a Special Education Teacher for grades 6-12 at Hartford and para-professionals for Neosho Rapids. If you are interested, please contact Mr. Whitson or apply through USD 253 Flint Hills Special Education Cooperative at https://www.usd253.org/district/employment

Update: Water Advisory
November 6, 2024 – The City of Emporia continues to address the water quality issues that led to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Boil Water Advisory. Yesterday, City staff successfully located and repaired a mechanical issue and leak at the Water Treatment Plant that contributed to the advisory. Today, teams are working on further reducing turbidity levels and restoring the Ozonation system, which will help address the discoloration and odor currently present in the water supply.
Once repairs are complete, water must filter through the entire system to flush out any affected water. At this time, the City anticipates that Friday would be the soonest the boil water advisory could be lifted, though this timeline remains dependent on achieving KDHE compliance standards.
📢 Attention Patrons:
The district has received an important update today. In addition to the City of Emporia and Lyon County, the following water districts have issued a Boil Water Advisory:
Lyon County RWD 2
City of Hartford
Park Place Communities
Lyon County RWD 4
City of Olpe
Lyon County RWD 5
Coffey County RWD 2E
If your water is supplied by any of these public water systems, please take necessary precautions in your food facility.
The school district has secured enough water to last through the week, if needed. We apologize for the inconvenience, and please stay tuned to media outlets for further updates.
Just a reminder, Hartford and Neosho Rapids will not have school on Friday, October 25th. Have a great weekend!
