Back-To-School Playbook 8.11.20 Good evening parents, students and members of the Olpe community. In just a few weeks we will be welcoming students back into our buildings after nearly 6 months. In the days leading up to the start of school, we will be sharing various pieces of our back-to-school playbook through our Facebook page and will post this information to our webpage as well. Yesterday, Dr. Argabright shared the vision and part of the journey that brought us to where we are today. Tonight’s back-to-school communication will be used to explain the teaching structures we will use during the 2020-21 school year. Our primary structure will be what we are calling a blended model. This model includes a face to face option and a remote learning option. The face to face option gives students the opportunity to receive their education in our school buildings. The remote learning option is available to those families who choose to keep students at home or as needed for quarantine measures. This model utilizes Google Classroom. Learning from our successes and even from some of our mis-steps in the spring, we have developed a common google classroom template to streamline the student experience. Students in grades 3-12 attending remotely will follow a traditional daily schedule, joining their classmates via Google Meet. These students will receive the same daily instruction as our face to face students. Students in PreK-2 will receive a modified experience that will allow for both daily instruction with their peers through Google Classroom, but will also include non-screen time for age-appropriate activities. The other structure that the district has developed is what we are calling Hybrid Learning. This type of learning will come into effect if deemed necessary due to an outbreak within one or more of our attendance centers. A specified percentage of students would switch to remote learning. The number of students required to move to remote learning could vary due to the situation surrounding the outbreak. Widespread remote learning could occur if the number of staff or students who are required to quarantine due to exposure, makes face to face learning impossible. Our goal in developing our back-to-school plan is to keep our doors open. We have spent several months crafting a plan that we believe provides the best opportunities to keep students and staff safe, while also providing the opportunity for face to face learning. Thanks for your patience and understanding as we navigate through these uncharted waters. Have a great evening!
