Parents and students, as many of you may be aware, Google Classroom is down. At this point, it is an issue with Google, not with our servers or our district. They have engineers working on the issue, but as of this moment, they have not been able to provide us an ETA as to when the service will be back up. Please be patient and understanding while they troubleshoot this issue. Having said that, please find ways to continue to communicate with your teachers via Google Meet, email, Google Drive, etc. They will be reaching out to you via email, if they haven't already. Have a great day and remember, it is always a great day to be a Jaguar!

Summer Activities Update 7.6.20: In accordance with new guidelines from the state of Kansas and KSHSAA, effective immediately, any inside activities in which social distancing cannot be attained, (i.e. scrimmaging, weight lifting, etc.) will require student athletes to wear a mask. The district highly recommends that students provide their own mask due to safety precautions. Students should also not share masks or wear a used mask. In addition, athletes need to provide their own water bottles. Students should not share water bottles. We encourage student athletes to stay hydrated before, during and after each workout. Families of USD 252 students, below is some new information about a Parent Helpline. We are all going through a stressful situation and that can lead to some uncertainty. Please feel free to reach out to school staff or use this helpline or mobile app if you are struggling during this time. KCSL’s Parent Helpline (1-800-CHILDREN) is designed to meet the needs of parents and caregivers who feel isolated and frustrated when trying to meet the challenges of raising children. Information, referrals and support are provided statewide anonymously to parents, relatives, caregivers, youth and professionals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Parent Helpline is also available as a mobile phone App. This is a free download that can be found by searching The Parent Helpline in either the Android or Apple stores. The App also contains links for Parent Tip Cards on the KCSL website or has simple one touch dialing if you decide you need additional information. Top reasons for calls to the Parent Helpline include basic parenting, child development, behavior management, questions about reporting child abuse and neglect, mental health, legal concerns and information about programs/services. Call the Parent Helpline at either 1-800-CHILDREN or 1-800-332-6378 for resources, referrals and other information.

Continuous Learning Q & A Question: I am confused about the elementary daily schedule. Does my child need to attend both the 9:00 and the 1:00 session? What if I am not available to help my child during those times? Answer: Students do not have to attend both sessions. Our teachers will be delivering instruction/interacting with students during that time. Teachers will provide more specific information each week as they communicate the specific tasks for the week. If you are not able to attend a session, that's OK. These sessions are recorded and are made available by your teacher through a learning platform such as Google Classroom. Your teacher will let you know how to keep informed and connected.
As part of the Stay at Home ordered issued by Lyon County, our school playground areas are closed through the duration of the order. We appreciate your help by following this order.

KSHSAA —The Kansas State High School Activities Association serves students by providing leadership for the administration of education based interscholastic activities— COVID-19 Update March 18, 2020 The KSHSAA is committed to the safety of our student-participants and the health of our school communities. Accordingly, in response to Governor Kelly’s Executive Order regarding the closure and cessation of in-person instruction in all Kansas schools through May 29, 2020, the KSHSAA is cancelling all spring championships, competitions, and festivals for the remainder of this school year. The KSHSAA recognizes the value of school activities for all students and school communities, but the current situation does not permit the opportunity for school activities to take place in a manner that is consistent with the very reason school activities exist. As a commitment to the health of Kansas students and communities, the best decision and only reasonable response is to cancel the regular season and post-season spring activity season. We all have an important responsibility to minimize community transmission as we embrace suggested precautions regarding COVID-19. As educators, the primary focus for our students and families is the health and well-being of each student. This action by the KSHSAA supports that effort across Kansas. The KSHSAA strongly discourages non-school activity participation at this time in an effort to mitigate the community transmission of the coronavirus. All CDC, KDHE and KSDE recommendations for preventing disease transmission should be followed at this time for any non-school activity in which a student participates. The following links provide access to those resources: CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/ KDHE: http://www.kdheks.gov/ KSDE: https://www.ksde.org/

Important Announcement 3-17-20 Today, March 17, 2020 Governor Laura Kelly announced all school facilities will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. This includes all activities. This will place tremendous hardship on our families and staff, and impact the social and emotional well-being of our students. We have been working on contingency plans since mid-March, including how we can meet the ongoing learning needs of our students and provide breakfast and lunch for our students who need it. KSDE is working to help districts develop a plan for continuous learning for our students through the end of the school year. This plan will include virtual learning along with limited on campus instruction that complies with guidance from our local county health department. The details of our plan will be communicated as soon as they have been solidified. What we do know now is that teachers will return on March 23 to begin planning student learning experiences through the Continuous Learning Program guided by the Kansas State Department of Education. Meals are expected to start on March 23. If your child needs a meal, please fill out the USD 252 Grab ‘n Go form so that we can plan accordingly. Students will be expected to begin participating in learning activities on Monday, March 30. Additional information will be shared during the week of March 23 in preparation of this transition. During these uncertain times, USD 252 is committed to ensure that ALL of our staff remains gainfully employed; therefore, staff will continue to be paid. Staff may be asked to work in different areas during this time. We appreciate our staff’s dedication to our students and their continued flexibility over the coming months. Our staff and board of education are also working on other critical issues, such as what this means for our seniors and how this will affect next school year. We will provide updates on these issues as soon as the information is available. We are committed to working together as a community to support one another throughout these unprecedented times, and communication will remain a top priority. As a reminder, this school closure is in response to the current public health crisis. The focus should remain on preventing the spread of the coronavirus, or COVID-19 as it is also referred to. Please be mindful of the following: • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing (cough/sneeze into your sleeve or a tissue). • If you are sick, stay at home. • Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms. • Practice social distancing Follow additional guidance from these sources: • National Center for Disease Control (CDC) • Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) • https://www.flinthillshealth.org

Since it's inception in 2016 Bryce and Juli Heitman have been instrumental in the coordination and success of our Honor Flight Program. Serving as our trip doctor and lead nurse, the Heitman's always go above and beyond to ensure all of the Veteran's medical needs are met. They are willing to make accommodations for many medical necessities that could precent some Veterans from wanting to attend an Honor Flight. The Heitman's sacrifice their time, resources, and finances to create a safe and reassuring medical environment for our Veterans while also providing their families peace of mind back home. Bryce and Juli set an incredible example of public service to our communities. We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Bryce and Juli for their support and service of our nation's Veterans and to the USD 252 Honor Flight Program.
