Parents as Teachers


Parents as Teachers is an early learning program for parents of children prenatal to age three.
The following information is from the Parents as Teachers program at Greenbush Educational Service Center.

Parents as Teachers is a free, voluntary early learning program designed to provide practical and timely information to all families including single parents, first-time parents and expectant parents.The early years of a child's life are critical for optimal development and Parents as Teachers provides the information, support and encouragement that parents need.Parents as Teachers' Born to Learn curriculum is based on reliable and current research in the areas of child development and neuroscience.

2008-2009 Parents as Teachers Group Meetings
6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
(dates and places subject to change)

Language Development - October 27 (Madison Library) and October 28 (Olpe Elementary)
This will concentrate on language development on all ages of children. Fun activities - like learning sign language!

Make a Book - November 3 (Hartford Library) and November 4 (Madison Library)
This is in conjunction with National Reading Week. Parents will be able to make a book with their child(ren) to help encourage language development and reading!

Healthy Teeth - February 10 (Madison) and February 11 (Hartford)
National Dental Health Month! Toothbrushes for all and good information including healthy snacks and other tips on teeth.

Homemade Toys - March 2 (Madison Library) and March 3 (Olpe Elementary)
This is a good opportunity for parents to understand the importance of play! We will make a homemade toy.

Sensory Play - May 5 (Madison Shelter House) and May 6 (Olpe Shelter House)
This is an opportunity for your child(ren) to explore and heighten their senses.

Summer Safety / Summer Fun - June 13 (Madison Days) and July 11 (Olpe Downhome Days)
Summer activities and safety tips! Come and see what is going on!

Program Components

Personal Visits
Parent educators share age-appropriate child development information, address parenting concerns, and engage the family in activities.

Group Meetings
Parent group meetings provide opportunities to share information about parenting issues and child development.

Screenings
Annual developmental, health, vision and hearing screenings provide for early identification of developmental delays and health, vision and hearing problems.

Playgroups
Playgroups give parents and children the opportunity to join with other parents and children for a play time that provides a variety of activities that enhance all areas of development.

Resource Network
Parent educators help families identify and connect with needed resources and overcome barriers to accessing services.

Subscriptions
Families receive subscriptions to the monthly PAT newsletter and a parenting magazine.

Resource Centers
Families have access to the local PAT resource center that contains toys, videos, and parent materials.
