Reading Is Fundamental

Olpe Elementary is proud to be a part of Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), the nation's oldest and largest volunteer literacy organization. RIF serves children from preschool through high school in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Guam. Since it's founding in 1966, RIF has provided hundreds of millions of books to children.

Through volunteer-run programs, RIF gets free books into kids' hands and makes reading fun through exciting reading-related activities.

Reading Is Fundamental believes the best way to help children discover the joy of reading - and become lifelong readers - is to involve them early and often. Since literacy begins at home, RIF helps parents make reading a family priority and involves them in their children's reading and learning through programs and materials.

Wherever there is RIF, you will always find:

  • Books for children to explore, choose, own, take home, and enjoy with their families.
  • Activities to capture kids' imaginations, shape their dreams, and inspire them to read.
  • Volunteers - parents, teachers, business people, and others who want to make a difference in the lives of young people.
