Citing Your Sources

Mrs. Rebecca Fawcett, Librarian

Library | AR | RIF | Citing Your Sources | Award Winners | Birthday Book Club

Citations

When you use someone else's ideas or words, you should always give them credit. If you don't, you are plagarizing. Plagarism is the stealing of word or ideas.

When you use others' ideas, you should have a Works Cited list to let your teacher know which sources you used. This is simply a list of all the sources you used in your research.

Here is what is expected:

Kindergarten - 1st Grade
Identify the type of source: Book, Encyclopedia, Internet, or Magazine. Mrs. Fawcett has stickers in the library that you may use for this.

2nd Grade
Mrs. Fawcett has stickers in the library that you may use for your citations. For books, or encyclopedias, identify the type of source, the author and the title. For Internet sites, identifiy the title and the address (URL) of the site.

3rd -4th Grade
Use the forms provided in the library. You need to provide the full citation, which includes author, title, and publication information. You may attach the forms to your research paper.

5th-6th Grade
You need to provide the full citation, which includes author, title, and publication information. Use the forms provided in the library to record your information in the correct format. You should use a separate sheet of paper and write or type your Works Cited list.
