Internet Searching

Search Engines: These use computer programs to index internet sites. Then another computer program matches your search terms with the index.
Try: Ask or Altavista

Directories: These have indexes created by people, not computer programs. You will get fewer results from a search, but the sites are usually the best quality sites.
Try: Yahoo! or Open Directory Project

Meta-Search Engines: These use several search engines at the same time. You are shown the results for each search engine. This is a good idea if your topic is narrow or very specific.
Try: Dogpile or MetaCrawler
