The purpose of the schools in Southern Lyon County USD #252, is to assure that students have a solid foundation in the basic academic areas. These schools will also assure that students understand good health practices, appropriate citizenship responsibilities, career opportunities and the practical arts. Students will develop life skills and an appreciation of the fine arts. |

Community Information
Southern Lyon County #USD 252 is located South and East of Emporia in the southern half of
Lyon County. The population of Lyon County is slightly more than 36,000. The board of education
office is located in Hartford, which is about 15 miles southeast of Emporia, the county seat.
Olpe, Hartford and Neosho Rapids are caring and giving communities that actively support school
functions and activities. With populations of 443, 556, and 250 respectively, they all have that small
town friendly, warm atmosphere. Both elementary schools have very active and supportive PTO
organizations and both high schools have strong booster clubs who not only promote activities but contribute to the classrooms also.
A number of churches and organizations serve residents of the district. Nearness of the district to Emporia and Emporia State University provides many opportunities for cultural enrichment and continuing education. I-35, K-99, and K-130 provide hard surface highways in and around the district. |
